九月的山一大，“香山醉枫叶，彩霞印满天”。秋天，我们迎来了新的学期。
“Maple leaves full of Fragrance Hill，rosy clouds all over the sky”. We ushered in the new term in autumn.
2020年，来势汹汹的新冠肺炎疫情给全世界带来了前所未有的挑战。全中国人民在政府的领导下，众志成城、全力以赴，疫情防控取得重大成果。在世界范围内，各国人民风雨同舟、守望相助，汇聚了同疫情斗争的宏伟力量。山一大的毕业留学生们奋战在抗疫第一线，用娴熟的医学技能和满腔的热情守护着当地人们的生命安全，也用自己的行动诠释了山一大“仁医仁术，施治取义”、“唯治病救人不避风险，唯挽救生命不计得失”的医学精神。
In 2020, the out breaking of COVID-19 epidemic presents the world with unprecedented challenges. Under the leadership of Chinese government, the whole nation has made concerted efforts and great achievements in epidemic prevention and control. People all over the world stand together and help each other through storm and stress, it gathered magnificent forces in the fight against the epidemic. The graduates of our university, they fight with the COVID-19 epidemic on the front line; They protect people's lives with their medical skills and great enthusiasm; They practice the medical spirit of the our university with their practical actions, which is“noble medical ethics, perfect medical skills”; and“cure diseases without avoiding risks , save lives without considering gains and losses”.
在过去的几个月中，你们克服时差、网络不稳等重重困难，开展“云端课堂”学习，高质量地完成了上学期课程；你们主动担当社会责任，参与当地医疗救助，用实际行动为抗击疫情作出自己的贡献；你们坚强乐观，积极配合校园疫情防控，为校园稳定作出了巨大的贡献。面对疫情，你们果断勇敢、坚强乐观、见危授命，展现了山一大人的风采，将山一大的精神名扬海外。
In the past few months, all the students overcame the difficulties of jet lag and unstable Internet, study in the "cloud classroom", and finished the courses of last semester with high quality. You took social responsibility on your own initiative, participated in local medical assistance and made great contributions to the fight against the epidemic with your practical actions. You stay strong and optimistic, actively cooperate with the epidemic prevention of our university, and make significant contributions to the stability of the campus. Facing the epidemic, you are resolute, brave, strong and optimistic. You have shown the elegant demeanor of our university and made our spirit known by overseas.
学医之路，道艰且辛。学医意味着同学们将会遇到更多、更繁杂的学科。同学们必须静下心来，持之以恒。
Medicine study is a difficulty. Medicine studying means more complicated subjects. You have to peace your mind and keep on learning.
在新学期中，我对同学们有几点建议和要求：
In the new beginning of this semester, I have few suggestions and requirements:
首先，要在大学里培养批判性思维。
First, develop curiosity and critical thinking in university.
要敢于质疑既往，挑战权威，提出问题，这一切都首先源于思考和勇气。钟南山院士说“学医很辛苦，要敢医疗，敢实践，敢说话，看到什么，觉得应该是这么做，实践以后认为这个是对的，就要坚持”。希望同学们在批判中学习，在质疑中理解，以此推动学业上的进步和成长。
Question the past, ask questions. It starts with thinking and courage. The academician Nanshan Zhong said: Medical study is very hard, keep on with medical study and practice, practice to find out the truth, follows the truth when it is been proved by practice. We hope that students can learn after criticism, understand after query, in this way we will improve and make progress in our medical learning.
其次，要在大学里树立正确的人生观与价值观。
Secondly，it is important to establish correct view of life and view of worth.
“培养乐观、积极，知识、能力、素质与完善人格兼备，能够对人类有所贡献的高层次人才，是世界上所有大学共同的办学宗旨。”
It is the common tenet of universities that cultivates high-level talents who are optimistic, positive, capable, qualified personality perfection and well-know ledged”.
在这场疫情战役中，你们已经取得了医师执照的师哥师姐，现在正奋战在自己家乡抗疫的第一线，他们穿上隔离衣，带上护目镜，一副战士的模样，但我知道他们只是一群年轻姑娘、小伙，但是是什么支撑他们冲向前，舍弃家人，不顾自身，做灾难面前的英雄？是医生的誓言，“健康所系,性命相托；把我的一生奉献给人类”。正在学习的你们虽不能冲向抗疫前线，但仍然可以凭借课堂所学，用自己医学知识也为家人撑起一片健康的天空。这一刻，你和我都为医学生的这一角色而感到庆幸和自豪！
At present, you seniors who have obtained the doctor's license are working on the front lines of epidemic in their hometown. They put on isolation gowns and goggles, they fight like soldiers, yet I know they are only girls and boys. Why are they in the front line? Why do they regardless of their own? Been a hero? No, it is because of the doctor’s oath, maybe you cannot join in the front line, but I believe that you will protect your families and friends with your medical know ledges. At this moment, we are grateful and proud for the title of medical students.
再次，要爱校，这是我们学院的精神之本。
Third, love the university; this is the basic spirit of us.
在我们学校，你会发现有很多家庭式的学生，往往是哥哥姐姐来我校学习后，又会送弟弟妹妹继续来我校学习，他们信任这所学校，因为这里老师专业、热情、负责，值得信任；这里设施完备先进，可以信任；这里学习风气向上，治学严谨，必须信任。
You will find many real family members in our university. Why is that? Because the family believes in this university, because the teachers are professional, enthusiastic, responsible and trustworthy; the facilities here are complete and advanced, and you can trust them; the atmosphere of learning here is progressive, rigorous scholarship, you must trust.
孔子曰“有朋自远方来，不亦乐乎”，你们来自五湖四海，有着不同的语言，不同的文化，却在这所国际化的学校里快乐相处，成为知己。校（院）承载了你们的成长，也寄托着你们的愿望，你们的成长，让母校光荣！
Confucius once said, "what a joy it is to have friends coming from afar! " .You are from all over the world, speaking different languages, holding different cultures, and you become friends and get along with each other happily in our university. We are proud with all of you.
最后，珍惜每一分钟，努力学好知识本领。
At last, treasure every minute and study hard.
大学时光是人生最美好的年华。你们虽然离开熟悉的家乡到中国留学，但这里有慈爱严谨的老师带领呵护着你，有中国五千年的文明等待着你，有来自各国不同性格但志同道合的同学陪伴着你，在这一时期你们所习得的知识、增长的能力、培养的综合素质、国际视野将是你们成为医生、立足国际社会最重要的积淀。珍惜韶华，认真读书，刻苦钻研医学知识，医学之路虽道阻且长，但行则将至。
University is the best time of your life. Although you left your home country, you meet kind, strict and excellent teachers here, you will meet five thousand years of civilization in China and like-minded students from different countries. During this period, the knowledge you acquire, the capacity you grow, the comprehensive quality you develop, and the international perspective you develop will be the most important accumulation for you to become good doctors and build your dream. Cherish the time, study medical knowledge assiduously. The road of medicine is long and obstructed, but it will be done.

Please be firm in your choice. Remember our university motto: A journey of thousands of miles may not be achieved through accumulation of each single step; constantly striving to discover new knowledge; contribute to the whole world with your medical knowledge. The whole university is making great efforts to build a nationally leading and internationally influential application-oriented university. I believe that with our joint efforts, our university will become a gathering place for excellent international students. Here I hope every student can cherish the time of study, live a happy life, put more effort into your study and academic work, and work hard for your brilliant and bright future, as well as our university.
